Contract between Nicolas Perrot and Pierre Rivard and 12 other fur traders : 1685 April 4.

Contract for fur trading with the Mascouten and "Nadoussaux" (or Sioux) Indians in the area of and beyond "Baie des Puants" (Green Bay, Wis.). Perrot, commander of the Green Bay trading post, will be "chief" of the "company" and responsible for providing trade goods and provisions.

Perrot was a fur trader, voyageur, and envoy to Native Americans, he came to the new world as an agent to the French missionaries. His knowledge and influence with the Indians was often used by the French government in dealing with the tribes of the old Northwest. In 1688 he took formal possession of the Mississippi in the name of the King. His many services to the government were never repaid.
